Brief History:

Sheki Juma Mosque is the oldest mosque in Azerbaijan and one of the major architectural monuments of the Sheki region. Originally built in the 17th century, it is located in the city center of Sheki, Azerbaijan. The mosque is composed of two parts: a prayer hall and a four-pillared windowed hall, a grooved loggia. The older, main prayer hall is 19.5 by 8.2 meters and has a domed ceiling. The four-pillared loggia is made of brick and has twelve columns, divided into three rows, each crowned with a semicircular arch. The four-pillared construction is typical of many 18th century mosques in Azerbaijan. The loggia used to serve as a summer mosque, and the prayer hall as a winter mosque.
