Brief History:
Gabala Juma Mosqu, located in the city of Gabala, Azerbaijan is one of the oldest remaining mosques in the region. Having dates back to the 15th century AD, it is the second oldest mosque still standing in the country. In its open courtyard, the mosque comprises a stone main building with one minaret to the west and one minaret to the east. The spacious mosque includes two crossed aisles and a wide semi-circular hall that is buried into the ground. The mosque is decorated with colorful tiles and reliefs, and is surrounded by a majestic fence. The Gabala Mosque is listed among the Historic and Cultural Immovable Monuments of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan. It is one of the most famous mosque in Azerbaijan which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Juma Mosque in Gabala is one of the oldest monuments in Azerbaijan and is believed to date back to the 15th century. The mosque is constructed using brick and mortar and consists of three main parts including a prayer hall, a vestibule, and a small minaret. The main prayer hall is covered by a wooden dome, and both the ceiling and walls are decorated with rock-carved ornaments. The entrance to the mosque consists of two doors with an inscription describing its history. The mosque is also surrounded by a picturesque courtyard that features a small pond and a wooden pavilion. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
