The Azerbaijan National Museum of History is the oldest, largest and one of the most important museums in Azerbaijan. It is located on the south shore of the Caspian Sea in the city of Baku and is home to a large collection of archaeological artefacts, documents and photographs of the country's history, culture and people. The museum was founded by Azerbaijani historian Murtuz Mustafaev in 1920, and is the oldest institution of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. It was reorganized in 2003 and is nowadays a complex of three buildings, an indoor and two outdoor facilities.
