History:

Fountains Square is one of the main public squares in the city of Baku, located in the heart of the city. Fountains Square dates back to the late 19th century when the wealthy oil barons of Baku began to have their residences built around the square. By 1911 the perimeter of the square was lined with households. One of the most notable buildings was the Turk Bank Building which was built during 1907-09 and still stands today. In Soviet times, the square was renamed Torgovaya Ploshchad (Market Place), a name it had from 1925-1991, and was the site of several Soviet era parades, rallies and events.
