History:

Baku State University (BSU) is the oldest university in Azerbaijan and one of the two oldest universities in the Caucasus region. It was founded by a decree of the Central Executive Committee of the Azerbaijan SSR in 1919 and is still in operation today. The university was first established in a former Russian Tsarist military barracks which was later turned into a scientific and educational centre for the youth of Azerbaijan.
