: Sabunchu Mosque is a historic mosque located in the Sabunchu district of Baku, Azerbaijan. The Fabribashi mosque was constructed in the 16th century under the rule of Safavid Shah Abbas I by the order of Mirza Jawanbakht Afshar. A madrasa and two domed mausoleums, as well as adjoining walls were built in 1831. The mausoleums were built in honour of the martyrs of the Battle of Chaldiran in 1514. The mosque was reconstructed in the early 19th century and the roof was replaced with a wooden dome. In 1950, the mosque was closed to the public for repairs, and in 1971, the whole structure was replaced. The mosque was reopened in 1989 and the front façade was reconstructed in 1995. It is one of the most important sights of Baku from a historical and architectural point of view. It is one of the most famous mosque in Azerbaijan which you must visit.
