Brief History:
The Qaradagh Mosque is thought to be the oldest mosque in Azerbaijan. Located in the old city of Baku, it was built in the late 16th century. The mosque was re-constructed several times and has served as a religious center for many years. The mosque is now used as a museum, where visitors can learn about the history of Islam in Azerbaijan. It is one of the most famous mosque in Azerbaijan which you must visit.
Architecture:
Qaradagh Mosque is an ancient Persian-style mosque located in the city center of northern Azerbaijan’s Qaradagh District. The mosque is one of the oldest in the northern region and dates back to the 17th century. Built from brick and adobe, the mosque has two entrances and a tall minaret. The mosque is decorated with stunning tilework in geometric and floral designs. The interior of the mosque is divided into two parts, the spacious main chamber and smaller adjacent spaces. The main chamber has a beautiful, decorated mihrab, elevated platform and decorated arches. There are also four balconies and a decorated wooden ceiling in the main chamber. The unique features of the mosque include separate entrances for men and women and a well-maintained garden. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
