Heydar Aliyev Palace is a large building complex located in Baku, Azerbaijan. It was built between 1996 and 2005 to commemorate the 75th birthday of the late President Heydar Aliyev. The complex consists of a museum, a theater, a conference room, a library, a car park, and multiple rooms for different purposes. The idea of constructing a complex for Heydar Aliyev was proposed in 1994 by his son Ilham Aliyev, the current president of Azerbaijan. According to Ilham Aliyev, the main purpose of the palace was to "honor the legacy of his father, as a champion of democracy, economic growth, and stability of Azerbaijan." Heydar Aliyev was the Soviet-era leader of Azerbaijan and his father had most of the country's oil fields under his control. The construction of the palace began in 1996 and was completed in 2005.
