History:
Goygol National Park, also known as Goygol Lake National Park or Goygol Nature Reserve, is located in the Republic of Azerbaijan. It is the first national park established in Azerbaijan, founded in 2008. The park stretches over an area of 2,743 hectares, and includes the Goygol Lake, the most famous lake in Azerbaijan. The lake was formed in a powerful earthquake-triggered landslide and has a unique sulphur-rich ecosystem. The park protects the lake and its surroundings, including the adjacent Aghsu River Catchment. The park is home to a wide variety of birds, including white storks, Eurasian Spoonbills, grey herons, white-tailed eagle, corncrake, common buzzards, white-winged black terns, marsh sandpipers, and common pochards.
