The Mirza Fatali Akhundov Monument in the capital city of Baku was inaugurated in 1996 to honor the life and works of the great Azerbaijani intellectual and founder of the modern Azerbaijani literature, Mirza Fatali Akhundov. The monument is situated at the Fatali Akhundov monument park, near the bank of river Boyukshor, at the intersection of two main streets of the city. The monument is a large bronze statue of Mirza Fatali Akhundov seated in a chair surrounded by a deep recess. The monument is 12 meters tall and was made by the Azerbaijani sculptor Rasim Babayev.
