It is notable for its variety of interior styles including Azerbaijani, Persian and Russian elements. It has multiple domes, a Mihrab and two minarets standing at either side, and features circular windows and other oriental designs typical of Central Asian mosques. The mosque is among the earliest examples of a European style that integrated features from traditional Islamic architecture. Originally, its main entrance used to face in the direction of Mecca, however later, in the early 20th century, it was re-faced in the opposite direction.
