The Linz Lentos Museum of Modern Art, located in the city of Linz in Austria, was founded in 2003 as part of the European Capital of Culture, Linz09. The mission of the Lentos is to promote Austrian and international contemporary art and design and to preserve the cultural heritage of the city of Linz through its collection and exhibitions. The collection of the museum consists of over 3,000 objects from both national and international artists. Highlights of the collection include works by Austrian modernists such as Ferdinand Nowak, Egon Schiele, Oskar Kokoschka, and Friedensreich Hundertwasser; 20th century American artists such as Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, and Willem de Kooning; works by contemporary Austrian and international artists; and a special selection of post-1945 Pop Art and contemporary photography, video, and media art. The museum also regularly hosts special exhibitions, film screenings, programs, and educational workshops focusing on modern and contemporary art. In addition to the permanent collection, the museum is home to a newly commissioned multimedia installation, the Erwin Wurm Retrospective, and a variety of public programs and activities aimed at engaging local communities. The interactive media laboratory, Cyberlab, is open to school groups and other educational institutions and houses more than 250 interactive installations, workshops, and events.
