Maltese Church, Vienna, is a Catholic church located in the Austrian capital of Vienna. It was established in 1615 by the Knights Hospitaller of the Order of Saint John, more commonly known as the Knights of Malta. The building was originally a military hospital and was used to care for the sick and wounded soldiers of the Order's fighting forces. In 1709, it was converted into a church and dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi. The church is one of the oldest and largest religious buildings in Vienna. History:

The site of the Maltese Church was first used as a hospital by the Knights Hospitaller after the demise of the Knights Templar in the 14th century. However, it was in 1615 when the church was built as a military hospital. During this time, the Knights of Malta were actively involved in the defense of Vienna against the invading Turks. The hospital was used to care for wounded and ill soldiers and was staffed by the Order's members. In 1709, the hospital was closed and the building was remodeled and consecrated as a church.
