History:
The Church of St. George was founded by immigrants who settled in South Philadelphia during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. These immigrants were Albanians, Serbs, Greeks, Bulgarians, and Ukrainians, who were escaping political and religious persecution in their respective homelands. The Church was founded with the assistance of St. Raphael Hawkins and Father Palimar, primates at the Greek Orthodox church in Boston. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Austria.

The Church of Saint George is home to the oldest Eastern Orthodox religious artifact in the United States. It is a large, wrought-iron candelabra dating back to 1744. The building was designed by a renowned architect, George I. Lovatt, who designed many iconic churches in Philadelphia. In 1928, the exterior of the church was covered in Carrara marble. The bell tower is topped with a cross that dates back to the mid-19th century.

The Church of Saint George offers a variety of services, including: traditional liturgical services, Sunday schools for children, adult bible classes, theological text groups, choir rehearsals, and special services for holidays and other important times of the year.
