The Pyramid of Meresankh III, also known as the Pyramid of Mersyankh III, is an unfinished Pyramid at the Giza Necropolis in Egypt. It was built for Meresankh III, the daughter of Pharaoh Khufu—the builder of the Great Pyramid. The pyramid is about 66 feet tall and its sides measure around 90 feet long. It was likely never completed as it was found unfinished with no external casing. The stairway leading up to the burial chamber is still intact. Inside the burial chamber, there is an offering chamber with graffiti from another era. The Pyramid has a cult-niche on the east side of the pyramid and a false door on the south side. The entrance of the pyramid is located on the northern side. Inside, it consists of a single room with a square-shaped pavement. The chamber walls are decorated with carved reliefs, depicting the queen. In addition, there are four rectangular pillars in the chamber, which support part of the roof. The pyramid has two boat pits, located on its eastern and western sides. These pits were meant to contain the boats of Meresankh III, so that she could travel through the afterlife in the same way as the gods. History:

The pyramid of Meresankh III at Giza is located on the Giza plateau to the south of the Great Pyramid. The pyramid was originally built for Meresankh III, the daughter of Khufu and wife of Khafre, two of the famous 4th dynasty Pharaohs. Her particular pyramid, like the other pyramids of the period, is made of limestone and is approximately 60 meters (200 feet) high. The pyramid was first discovered in the 19th century by archaeologists and excavated further in 1908. It was found to still contain approximations of its original limestone casing and internal passages. Only sparse hieroglyphs were found on the internal walls of the pyramid, leaving us unable to get a clear record of Meresankh’s life. However, from the evidence we have, she appears to have been a particularly high-ranking lady of the royal court. Her tomb is found next to her husband’s, suggesting a degree of prominence and closeness the couple shared in their lives. Today, Meresankh III’s pyramid has become a tourist attraction for Egypt, allowing us to marvel at the construction techniques of ancient times and learn about the life of one of the more influential ladies of the Pharaoh’s court.
