History:
The Giza Solar Boat Museum in Egypt is located at a site dedicated to the memory of Pharaoh Cheops, who ruled Egypt from 2551 to 2528 BC. The museum was established in 1994 and is dedicated to the display of a reconstructed ancient Egyptian funerary boat used to ferry Pharaoh Cheops from his pyramid to the afterlife. Originally, the archaeological site at Giza contained six pairs of boats, each of them consisting of a "solar" boat and a "funerary" boat, intended to be buried in a tomb near the pyramid. Pharaoh Cheops had five pairs of them, with four from the 26th Dynasty and one from the 27th Dynasty. The reconstructed 28th Dynasty solar boat that is currently housed in the museum was excavated in 1954, from pits just north of the Great Pyramid of Giza. The Giza Solar Boat Museum contains a large rectangular area with a door and windows designed in the shape of the pyramid, and two walls decorated with images of the pyramid, sphinxes, and other symbols of ancient Egypt. Inside, visitors can view the reconstructed 28th Dynasty boat, exhibiting a system of parts and canal plans that explains the design and construction of the boats used by Pharaoh Cheops. Gallery space is also available for the display of other archaeological artifacts related to the Pyramid Age and the royal funerary boats. The museum also offers educational programs for the general public, as well as special lectures focusing on the Giza Pyramid and its monuments, and the ancient Egyptian funerary tradition. The museum also offers a solar boat model building contest, with winners receiving a certificate of achievement. Visit one of the famous monuments of Egypt with your friends and family.
