Smooth Walls: Each level is made of very smooth white limestone walls, likely plastered to give a level of grandeur. 3. History:
The pyramid of Djedkare-Isesi was built during the 6th Dynasty of the Old Kingdom in Egypt (approximately 2414-2375 BC). It is located at the famous necropolis of Saqqara, just south of Cairo. The pyramid is built for the Pharaoh Djedkare-Isesi and is the third and last pyramid that he had constructed during his reign. The pyramid’s design reflects much of the advanced engineering expertise of the ancient Egyptians. The pyramid is composed of two parts, a lower section made of limestone, and an upper one made of mudbrick core, and facing stones of white limestone. Its sides are almost perfectly straight, and the walls of the inner chamber are covered with limestone. There are four small stairways that lead to the entrance of the burial chamber, and there are also four false doors that are decorated with inscriptions and drawings of the gods of the time. The pyramid consists of a substructure, consisting of a large, rectangular chamber with three smaller chambers aligned in a row to the east. It is believed that the pyramid was used both as a solar-cemetery and as a cult-temple for offerings and burials. Archaeologists have also discovered four pyramids in the vicinity which possibly belonged to family members of the Pharaoh. The pyramid of Djedkare-Isesi is still in remarkably good condition, especially considering its age. It is a major tourist attraction in the Saqqara complex and is one of the best-preserved pyramids in all of Egypt. Visit one of the famous monuments of Egypt with your friends and family.
