The Church of the Savior on Spilt Blood, also known as the Resurrection Church, was built in St. Petersburg between 1883 and 1907. It was designed in the Russian Revival style as a memorial to Emperor Alexander II, who was assassinated close to the site in 1881. The church stands on the site of the assassination and contains over 7,000 square meters of mosaic art. The building was designed by Alfred Parland and Vladimir Pokrovsky, and features several elements of the Russian Revival style. The main dome is six meters in diameter, and is crowned by a seven-pointed star. The Church also features numerous ornately decorated domes and a belfry tower. The interiors of the church are decorated with a series of scenes from the life of Alexander II, including his coronation and the signing of the Emancipation Manifesto of 1861.
