Overview:

The Pyramid of Neferirkare Kakai in Egypt is a large mortuary complex located at the necropolis of Saqqara in Lower Egypt. It is the third largest pyramid in Egypt and is believed to have been built during the reign of the Fifth dynasty ruler Neferirkare Kakai. It is unusual amongst other pyramids in Egypt as it was built around a single small chamber. The pyramid originally rose to a height of 54 metres (177 feet) and is now greatly reduced in size due to the erosion of time. It is thought to have been surrounded by a mudbrick enclosure wall and is believed to have been a free-standing structure. 1. The pyramid of Neferirkare Kakai is the largest and best preserved of the complex of royal funerary monuments in the necropolis of Abusir. 2. The pyramid was constructed in layers of mud-brick and grey limestone. It stands 57 meters tall and comprising nine steps or terraces. 4. It is believed to have been surrounded by a surrounding wall with a steep slope and with a pathway that led from the cemetery to the pinnacle. 5. The pyramid contains a large, square central chamber with varied sides, four corner rooms arranged in two storeys, and many smaller chambers in the walls. 6. Mysterious hieroglyphic inscriptions were found on the depression segments of the south wall of a corridor on the east side, which is thought to refer to the offering rituals and deceased ruler Neferirkare. 7. On the south side of the pyramid, there are remains of a small mortuary temple, made of mud-brick. 8. The remains of a causeway, located north of the pyramid, could have been part of the processional way by which the funeral procession reached the site or could have been used to supply the priests with the offerings from the mortuary temple. 9.
