The Museum of Decorative, Applied and Folk Art (Музей декоративно-прикладного и народного искусства) in Moscow is a branch of the State Historical Museum. The Museum of Decorative, Applied and Folk Art was established in 1920 with the aim of preserving and displaying Russian folk art and crafts. It opened its doors in the 14th century Moscow Estate of the Morozov family, in the Khamovniki District of the city. The Museum has a collection of almost 30,000 items of art and objects created by Russian artisans since pre-Revolutionary times. The collection includes items from major Russian schools which represent traditional Russian crafts: lacquering, ceramics-making, wood-carving, 18th century textiles, gold jewelry, stone carving, and majolica-making. Its collection includes unique works of the P.P. Boichuk school, among which is the famous “Khuskova” scrolls pattern series. The museum also has a large collection of decorative art from the 1950-1960s, including wallpaper, tapestries, paintings, ceramics, porcelain, and sculpture from Russian architects, ceramicists, painters, and sculptors. The museum also hosts a number of temporary exhibitions. The museum's main gallery closes for a few days in August and December. During these periods, visitors may still visit the museum's bazaar, housed in a separate building, which sells souvenirs created in the workshops of the museum's artists.
