The worship method of the Kumarakottam Murugan Temple is in accordance with the Agama Sastra, the ancient scriptural texts of the Hindu religion. In this temple, the chief deity is Lord Murugan, who is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Worshippers begin their visit to the temple by performing a ritual in which they pray for the blessing, guidance and protection of the lord. After this, they perform abhishekam, the ritual of anointing Lord Murugan with oil and other sacred substances, followed by an offering of flowers and prayers. The devotees also chant Hindu hymns and mantras to Lord Murugan in order to plea for his blessings and grace. Afterward, they circumambulate the temple and make their offerings of fruits, flowers, and other items to the deity. After praying, the worshippers perform aradhanam or puja, where the devotees offer their prayers to the Lord and seek his protection.
