The worship method of Kalyanasundareswarar Temple in Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu follows the traditional Agama Shastra (Vedic) based rituals. The temple follows agamic worship methodology which includes elaborate and regular nityarchana (daily prayers) performed by priests many hundreds of years ago. The daily rituals include four distinct worship rituals (pooj̣a): archana (chanting of prayers), abhishekam (bathing of the deity), alankara (decorative offering) and homam (fire offerings). During the abhishekam, the deity is bathed with water, milk, honey, ghee, curd, kashayam (concoction of herbal decoction), karpuram (camphor) and other offerings. This is followed by the offering of sandal paste, flower garlands, and prasadams such as panchamrutham (a mixture of honey, ghee, curd, milk, and sugar, along with other items).
