Nellaiappar Temple has two forms of worship - the Traditional South Indian Style and the Pancharatra Style. In both of the styles, the worshipers offer prayers to Nellaippar and his consort Godess Soundhara Nayaki. In the Traditional South Indian Style, the devotees light lamps with ghee (clarified butter) and pour water on the idols. They offer Tulsi (Holy Basil) and flowers to the deities, and sing hymns from the Thiruthulayudhya. They also offer special foods like sarkarai pongal, arisi upma and sundal as prasad. In Pancharatra Style, the devotees perform pooja rituals of seven days duration. They invoke the deity on the first day and place five murtis in the mandapam. On the subsequent days, they perform vedic and bhajan songs, dance to the rhythm of the nagaswaram, and also recite various slokas and mantras.
