Worship Method:

Kannika Parameswari Temple is an ancient temple located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Worship at this temple follows several distinct methodologies. These include the chanting of hymns, worshipping with flowers and aarti (the offering of light), and the offering of prasadam (food to the deity). The temple opens every day at 8:00 am and the day typically begins with “pooja” (ceremony of worship). During the pooja, priests clad in white adorn the deity with flowers, sandal paste and kumkum. They then light tens of lamps and perform archanas (offering hymns to the deity). The hymns chanted include Vedic hymns, verses from the Bhagavad Gita, shlokas from the Puranas (ancient Hindu scriptures) and verses from the Tirumurai (Classical Tamil literature). The priests also perform the pooja with arathi (the offering of a light). After the pooja, devotees take turns offering prasadam (food to the deity) or making their requests. Then, it is time for the aarti (offering of the light). The priests perform the aarti befittingly with the blowing of conches and ringing of bells. After the aarti, devotees can have darshan (view) of the deity through the screened entrance for a few moments. Once devotees receive blessings from the deity they complete the worship with the chanting of Rudram and other hymns. After the worship, the priests perform the closing pooja and offer closure to the day's shrine visit. This most visited temple in TamilNadu
