Architecture:

Masjid Al-Saadiq (also known as Al-Sabaeen or Masjid Al Saba’ain) in Jeddah is a grand and spacious mosque which was named “Al-Saadiq” in recognition of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him and His Family). The mosque was designed and built by a group of 25 leading Saudi architects and engineers, headed by the architect and engineer, Hamza Abu-Zayd Al-Samt. The design was inspired by the grand mosque in Madinah and is based on principal elements from the ancient buildings of the Hejaz region. It measures 125,000 square meters and has a capacity of almost 12,000 worshippers. The mosque has five minarets, all built from reinforced concrete and connected to four large domes (originally there were ten minarets). Each minaret is 87 meters tall and has two balconies, from which the call to prayer (Adhan) is revealed. The primary dome stands out from the other four which are evenly placed along the structure, creating a beautiful and imposing façade. The façade of the building is made from white marble, which glitters under the bright sunlight. The corners are adorned with cream colored marble ornamentations. The grand prayer hall is covered with a large canopy (sabaa) of brown and green marble which creates a remarkable three-dimensional pattern, inspired by the Mameluke tradition. The ceiling is made from blue and gold matte paint, giving the prayer hall a unique atmosphere. The lamps used in the mosque are a combination of modern and traditional designs. Inside, visitors will also find a library that contains books related to Islamic sciences, art, and culture. The mosque also has a Makam (prayer niche) crafted from alabaster, which was a gift from Saudi King Fahd. This gift is unique since Makams usually consist of marble and sandstone. The Makam is decorated with verses from the Quran written in Kufic calligraphy. The floor of the mosque is made from Persian carpet. The four entrances are carved with intricate geometric designs and ornaments. Masjid al-Saadiq has sacred and architectural significance in the Muslim world, and has been praised for its design and the beauty of its appearance.
