Parish Church of Fatima In Portugal: History,Facts, & Services
History:
The apparitions of the Virgin Mary to three shepherd children in 1917 began the building of the Parish Church of Fatima. After the end of World War I, on May 13th, 1921, construction began. Bishop José Alves Correia da Silva dedicated the Church to Our Lady of Fatima on 31 May 1930, on the feast of the Visitation of Mary. Since then, the Church has maintained its annual celebrations of Our Lady of Fatima on 13th May and 13th October. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Portugal.
