Church of Saint Jacques is a French Catholic church located in Rue Saint-Jacques, in the historic Latin Quarter of Paris. It is the oldest parish church in Paris, and dates back to around 1080. Throughout its long and storied history, the church has been occupied by several orders including Jesuits, Capuchins, and Sulpicians.
History
The church was built in the Romanesque style by count Hildebert II of the Savoy dynasty in 1080, but was destroyed twice within the span of a few hundred years, once in 1248 during the Barons' revolt, and again in 1544 during the Siege of Paris. It was then renovated and rebuilt in the Gothic style in 1553. Over the centuries, several orders took up residence in the church, including Jesuits in 1568, Capuchins in 1633, and Sulpicians in 1656.
