Basílica dos Mártires is a 19th century Baroque-style basilica located in the central area of Torres Vedras, in Portugal. Built in honor of the Portuguese soldiers who died during the War of 1811, the basilica features an impressive main chapel, with majestic frescoes and stained-glass windows, as well as a crypt containing the remains of 296 soldiers killed in the battle.

History:
Basílica dos Mártires was built between 1867 and 1871 to commemorate the bravery of the Portuguese soldiers in the War of 1811, during which a large portion of the Portuguese army led by General William Carr Beresford fought against the French military occupation. The basilica was later inaugurated in 1886 in the presence of King Luís I. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Portugal.
