History:
The original charter for the foundation of the church dates back to 1630 and was granted by Charles I. The architect for the church was Sir Christopher Wren who also designed other churches such as St Paul's Cathedral. The church was completed in 1639 and has undergone several renovations over the centuries. The most significant of these was in 1786 when it was extensively restored. St Catherine's Church This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Portugal.

The church offers regular services every Sunday morning as well as various Christian activities and events throughout the week. There is also a full-time chaplain, who is available to meet with anyone wishing to discuss spiritual matters.
