History:
The Igreja de São Roque is an 18th century Roman Catholic church located in the city of Lisbon, Portugal. Originally founded in 1539 and dedicated to St. James, the current structure was commissioned by King João V of Portugal and built in 1750. The church features a prominent church entrance with six pillars, typical of the Baroque style prevalent in the area in the 1700s. The facade is also decorated with ornate windows and large sculptures representing St. Roque and other saints. The original crucifix, carved by the Jesuit Francisco dos Santos Cardoso, is now located inside the main altar. The walls are adorned with tiles of great historical value due to their connection to the 1755 Lisbon Earthquake.
