Cosmopolitan Church (United Church of Christ in the Philippines) was founded in 1939 by Rev. John Henry Osborn. The Church then known as the Philippine Ecumenical Mission had its roots in the Methodist Church of the United States. The aim of the Mission was “to evangelize, nurture, and establish an independent, interdenominational Christian Church in the Philippines.” In 1949, the Philippine Ecumenical Mission was organized into the Cosmopolitan Church (United Church of Christ in the Philippines). It has since become one of the largest Protestant denominations in the Philippines, with more than 4 million members. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Philippines.

Cosmopolitan Church (United Church of Christ in the Philippines) is a member of the National Council of Churches in the Philippines (NCCP) and the World Council of Churches. The Church currently consists of over 7 thousand congregations throughout the Philippines. The Church’s mission is to “incarnate the gospel of Jesus Christ, proclaim the good news of salvation and liberate people from sin and injustice.” It seeks to become a “spiritual and moral resource for Filipino society in the building of a just and harmonious community.” The Church also seeks to provide pastoral care and guidance to members, couples and families, and to forge Christian unity.
