The Philippine Independent Church originated in 1902, when a group of religious leaders led by the incomparable Father Gregorio Aglipay, an Episcopalian priest, decided to break with the Roman Catholic Church and declared the establishment of an independent national church in the Philippines. This bold move was taken in response to the Vatican’s disapproval of the growing nationalist movement in the Philippines. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Philippines.
