Brief History:
Al Saifi South Mosque in Oman is a historic Islamic religious building that was constructed in 1962. It is located in the city of Muscat, and is reportedly the oldest mosque in the country. It is known for being a well-known pilgrimage site for Shia Muslims from around the world. It was built on the tomb of Wadi Muhri bin Ali bin Muqrin, a renowned scholar and author from the 7th century, and continues to be a revered shrine. The mosque features a large prayer hall, a vault for Muslim sermon sessions, and a pulpit for delivering sermons. To this day, it continues to welcome devotees of Shia Islam from around the world, and remains a popular religious destination in Oman. Architecture:
The Al Saifi South Mosque in Oman is a traditional Islamic mosque design. The mosque features two stories, a majlis, or prayer room, and two minarets. The main entrance is located at the front of the mosque and leads into a large, open courtyard. The walls of the mosque are built from local white limestone, while the roof is built from wood and is painted blue. The mosque features a dome atop the prayer hall, a qibla wall which points towards Mecca and a minbar, or altar, for prayer. The mosque also includes a mihrab, or prayer niche, which is decorated with traditional Islamic motifs such as stars and floral patterns. The mosque is surrounded by a landscaped garden with palms and vegetation, providing a peaceful, tranquil atmosphere. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
