The Al Qalhat West South North North East Mosque in Oman was built in the 16th century. It is said to be one of the oldest mosques in Oman. The mosque is constructed of sandstone and its walls are decorated with marble carvings. The prayer hall has a dome and a simple mihrab. The windows have a semi-circular arch with horseshoe-headed frames, which create an illusion of depth. On the outside, the mosque has an arched porch with marble steps leading to its entrance. Inside, the mosque shows the influence of traditional Omani Islamic architecture with a main room for gathering and another for worship. The dome and its interior decor has a traditional Qalhati Islamic style with floral and geometric patterns. The Qibla wall contains an artistic representation of the Kaba with Arabic inscription above it. The ceiling is constructed of stone and wooden beams and it is painted in various shades of blue. Additionally, there are two separate minarets on either side of the entrance and the mosque’s interior is illuminated by large oil lamps made of Damascus glass. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
