Brief History:

The Al Masnaah Mosque is the oldest standing mosque in Oman. It is located in the old city of A’Seeb near Muscat, and was originally built in 600H in the village of Saad, which is believed to have been founded by the famous Arab traveler, Ibn Battuta. The mosque was rebuilt during the reign of Imam Sultan bin Saif Al Yarubi, who was the ruler of Oman during the 15th and 16th centuries. It is considered to be an example of traditional Islamic architecture, and is decorated with beautiful tilework and arabesque arches. Architecture:

The Al Masnaah mosque in Oman was constructed in the 1960s and is located in Suhar, a port city on the east coast of the Sultanate of Oman. The mosque is part of the Suhail al Masnaah religious complex, which includes a religious school, two residential towers, and a large terrace. The mosque’s design reflects the traditional appearance of Omani religious architecture, while also incorporating architectural elements borrowed from other countries. The mosque is a two-storey structure, with the main prayer hall situated on the second floor. The entrance is made of ornate wood carvings, believed to date back to the early nineteenth century, and is flanked by two minarets. The interior of the mosque is decorated with geometric patterns, stucco, and geometric art. The walls and ceilings are painted in rich colors, and the flooring is composed of intricate geometric carpets. The main prayer hall is square in shape and features a large dome with four minarets that rise to the ceiling. In the center of the prayer hall stands a large marble pulpit, on which is inscribed the ninety-nine names of Allah. The religious complex also includes a twin-towered residential tower, designed for the advancement of students and teachers of the local madrassa. The residential towers were constructed in the mid-1990s, and feature sandstone walls, tiled roofs, and round arches. The towers are connected by a spacious terrace, which offers views of the beautiful beach and the mountains beyond.
