Brief History:
Al Suwayh North West Mosque is located in Gufuf in the North West corner of Oman. It is a traditional Islamic structure comprising of prayer hall, ablution area and a large domed roof. This mosque was built in the early 19th century. According to local tradition, it was supposedly established as a location of study and gathering for the people of Gufuf and nearby villages. Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, the mosque has been used by the local community for worship and was also used as a stage for anti-colonialism rallies during the 1970s. The mosque was extensively renovated in 1999 and since then has become a major landmark of the region. It is one of the most famous mosque in Oman which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Al Suwayh North West Mosque is a popular mosque located in the city of Rustaq, Oman. It is a magnificent building that features traditional Islamic architecture, including a large multipurpose prayer hall, a minaret, and a tall dome. The mosque has a rich design that features intricately designed low walls, arches, piers, and intricate roofing. The walls of the mosque are made of brick and plaster, and its prayer hall is adorned with intricate stone carvings and mosaic floors. On the exterior, the mosque is topped with a pointed dome and flanked by two short minarets. On the sides, the mosque contains two auxiliary prayer rooms which are decorated by colorful stained-glass windows. The entire mosque is surrounded by a simple courtyard. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
Visiting Hours:
Al Suwayh North West Mosque is open to visitors from 7:30am to 7:30pm on Fridays. All other visitors are welcome throughout the week between 12 noon and 7:30pm. All visitors are expected to maintain a respectful and peaceful atmosphere. best mosque in the world.
