The mosque was completed in 2010 to serve the people of Wilayat Al Ma'awil, located in the governorate of North Al Batinah. Construction of the mosque began 2 years prior under the supervision of His Excellency Sheikh Said bin Ali Al Ma'awil and a team of local craftspeople and engineers. The Al Ma'awil North Central East South Mosque in Oman is a traditional Omani architectural style mosque featuring a large white dome and four minarets in the four cardinal directions. The building is nestled amongst the rugged mountains and coastline of the Musandam Governorate. It is composed of white and yellow stone with the dome and minarets covered with intricate geometric patterns on plaster and glazed tile. Inside the mosque features an assembly area for the faithful, a mihrab (a recess in the wall of a mosque that marks the direction of prayer to Mecca) and a court for ablutions.
