Brief History:
Al Khuwayr Central North Mosque, located in the capital region of Muscat, is an important Islamic centre for religious worship in Oman. Built in the late 1980s, the mosque is renowned for its grand architecture and its historical significance. It was constructed as a memorial to the Islamic victory of Al Khuwayr which is documented in the Koran. The mosque serves the local congregation with regular prayer services, lectures and seminars, along with works of charity. It is open to members of all faiths and provides a forum for interfaith dialogue between people of different cultures. It is one of the most famous mosque in Oman which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Al Khuwayr Central North Mosque is a modern Islamic structure in the Muscat Governorate of Oman. The design of the mosque reflects both modern and traditional Islamic design principles. The mosque was designed by Omrania, an international architecture and design firm specializing in Middle Eastern countries. The mosque features a combination of Omani-style elements and modern elements, such as the inclusion of blue-tiled domes and crescents. The exterior features a large central dome with smaller domes and crescents that flank it. An open courtyard and prayer hall open to the outdoors can be found at the center. There are also areas for students to study and lecture, a library, and a traditional mihrab. The mosque features plenty of natural light, provided by generous windows and skylights, along with an energy-efficient cooling system. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
