Al Ghubrah North South West Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in the region, having been built in the late 16th century. It is located near Muscat in the Al Sharqiyah South Governorate of Oman, and is a Sunni mosque. The mosque was originally built by Imam Sultan bin Saif Al Ya’ribi, who was a scholar from Iraq. The mosque was originally built to face in the direction of prayer towards the Kaaba. It was renovated in 1962, and now faces towards the east. The mosque features a simple design, with a large rectangular prayer hall, a tall central aisle with a smaller wing on either side, and a large dome. The walls are decorated with intricate Arabic calligraphy, and the interior is furnished with comfortable furniture. It is one of the most famous mosque in Oman which you must visit.
