The mosque consists of an expansive two-floor prayer hall, which is surrounded by an arcaded prayer court connected to a series of large multi-level interior and exterior spaces. The ridge of the main prayer hall rises over 20m in height with a high window facade that floods the interior with natural light. Side hallways and balconies give access to the mezzanine level. Spatially, the building is open and inviting, characterised by uninterrupted and generous spaces, with doorways that lead out to a quiet and peaceful courtyard. Its external appearance is defined by a modern interpretation of a classical Omani design with a grand arched entrance and winding pathways. Other exterior details such as the use of brown and red Omani stone and metalwork intersecting the masonry walls were chosen to showcase Omani vernacular. The Al Aqur North West mosque was recognised by the BSI British Standard Awards 2016, shortlisted in the category of Small-Medium Projects of the Year.
