Brief History:
is the oldest mosque in Muscat, the capital of the Sultanate of Oman. It was built around 1815 by Sayyid Saif bin Sultan Al Busaidi, who also built the Palace of Al Alam, which can be seen in the city today. The mosque was renovated in 1994 and is still in use today. It features traditional Omani architecture with a courtyard, two minarets, and a dome covered in Persian tiles. It is one of the most famous mosque in Oman which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Al Amerat Mosque in Oman is a contemporary example of the traditional Islamic architectural style prevalent in the region. The mosque is built in a cluster of three-storey buildings with flat roofs and is faced with sandstone blocks. The main dome, entrance, and minaret are the main external features of the mosque. The prayer hall is a large room located in the center, surrounded by an arcaded courtyard with four domed aisles on either side and six small courtyards flanked by tall minarets. The central area is illuminated by an elaborate chandelier with a golden dome. There are also small niches along the walls of the mosque and murals with Islamic motifs. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
Visiting Hours:
Al Amerat Mosque in Muscat, Oman is open to visitors from 12 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Visitors are requested to dress modestly with full-length clothes, remove their shoes and observe prayer times. best mosque in the world.
