Al Ajyal Mosque in Oman dates back to the 13th century. It was built by the Sultan of Oman after the conquest of Oman by the Portuguese in 1508. The mosque was renovated in 1980s and is now open to the public. It features an open courtyard surrounded by a distinctive two-story façade. The inner courtyard, also known as the Dome Hall, is built of mud brick, while the two-tier façade is clad in ornamental white gypsum. Inside the main building, a prayer hall with multiple arches separates the worshippers from an altar, and a library. The mosque is the only surviving example of Sultanate architecture in Oman and is listed as a critical heritage site. It is one of the most famous mosque in Oman which you must visit.

The Al Ajyal Mosque in Oman is a traditional Islamic mosque structure designed in accordance with the local architectural style influenced by the Islamic faith. The mosque was built around the 1930s and is an example of traditional mosques in Oman. The mosque is constructed of coral blocks and mortar. The mosque is surrounded by an extensive courtyard and has three entrances leading into the mosque from the courtyard. The main entrance of the mosque is located at one end, the second entrance is located on one side and the third entrance is located at the other end. Inside the mosque, it consists of one square hall with three interior arches. The walls of the mosque are decorated with calligraphy, Koranic verses and ornamental paintings. The ceiling of the mosque is semi-circular with ornamental designs carved in low relief. The minaret is located on one side of the mosque and it is made of brick and has an octagonal shape. The floor of the mosque is paved with marble tiles. The interior of the mosque is also covered with rugs. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.

The mosque was built by the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said and completed in June 2001 under the guidance of the Ministry of Endowment and Religious Affairs. It has a capacity of more than 3000 worshippers. The mosque is a beautiful example of traditional Omani architecture, with its white domes and colorful minarets. Inside the mosque, visitors will find a large prayer hall lined with marble and a magnificent chandelier suspended from the ceiling. The mosque also houses a library, a lecture hall, and two smaller prayer halls. The Al Ajyal Mosque is accessible by car or public transport. The mosque opening hours for non-Muslims are Mondays to Thursdays from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and on Fridays from 4.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. It is closed during prayer times, which vary depending on the time of day.
