Brief History:

: The Al Suwayh North East South Central Mosque is situated in the town of Al Suwayh in the Dhofar Region, in the south of Oman. It is believed to be the first mosque to be built in Oman more than 500 years ago. It was built by Imam ‘Ali bin Al Sayyid, a religious leader of the time. The mosque has been renovated and extended several times over the centuries, most recently in 1977 by Sultan Qaboos bin Said. Architecture:

This mosque, located in Al Suwayh, Oman, was built in 2011 and is one of the largest in the area. The mosque embodies traditional Omani architectural style while still incorporating modern influences. The building is constructed of a combination of stone, brick, and wood, with a tall white domed structure dominating the center of the building. The overall shape is a three-part rectangular structure, with the dome in the center and two side wings on either side. The entry façade is decorated with stone and marble carvings, and the main entrance is highlighted by imposing double wooden doors. The mosque includes two minarets, with the taller one standing to the right of the main building. The minarets are adorned with traditional Islamic motifs and are topped by shaped domes. Inside the building, the open prayer hall is illuminated by large skylights allowing natural light to filter in. The design of the interior includes a mixture of Arabic, Islamic, and traditional Omani influences including intricately painted and designed ceilings and walls. The mihrab (a wall niche facing Mecca) is also elaborately decorated. In addition to the main hall, the mosque also includes a library and classroom, as well as ablution facilities and a small courtyard.
