Santa Maria Ta’ Doni was built in the middle of the 16th century, commissioned by Grand Master Don Martin de Valette. Within a few decades, further renovations and expansions were made, making the structure larger. The church also served as the provincial church for the Franciscan order in Malta until 1799. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Malta.
