History:

The earliest mention of Saint James’ Church can be found in the Royal Charter issued in 1604, which established the parish of St. James within the City of Westminster. Construction of the church began in 1684, and it was consecrated in 1686. The structure, designed in a Baroque style, has been modified a number of times. The most notable change occurred in 1872, when the once-towering steeple was removed and replaced with a spire of differing proportions. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Malta.
