Brief History:
is the first and oldest mosque in Pangkal Pinang, one of the main cities in the Bangka Belitung islands province. It was built in the late 19th century by the Acehnese and Arab communities. Throughout its history, the mosque has undergone many restorations and now features a stunning traditional architecture. The grand mosque is a distinctive place of worship in town which holds an undeniable influence on the entire Muslim community in Pangkal Pinang. It is one of the most famous mosque in Indonesia which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Masjid Raya Pangkal Pinang is a prominent mosque located in the city of Pangkal Pinang on Bangka Island in Indonesia. The mosque was constructed in 1887 and has an Indo-Persian influenced architectural style. The masjid is situated on a large rectangular plot of land surrounded by walls with a large central courtyard and a surrounding peripheral area that houses the prayer halls and other mosque related services. It has two large minarets and a central dome that rises from its roof. Inside the main prayer hall is adorned with intricate decorative carvings in marble. There are also two smaller prayer halls located in the peripheral area. The interiors of the mosque feature elements of Islamic art, such as calligraphy of verses of the Quran on the walls, beautiful stained glass windows, ornate woodwork, and an intricately carved mihrab arch on the qibla wall. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
