The Vishvanath Temple is a famous Hindu temple located in the holy city of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva, and is one of the twelve jyotirlingas, or forms of Shiva, spread across the Indian subcontinent. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The Vishvanath temple is a three-storied structure and its entrance is crowned with a gold-plated tower called the jagadambi that measures about 107 feet in height. Inside the temple, there are several shrines dedicated to various aspects of Lord Shiva, along with various other Hindu gods and goddesses. The temple has been around since the 11th century and has been mentioned in Hindu scriptures. The temple was destroyed and then rebuilt multiple times. The current structure of the temple was built in 1780 by Ahilyabai Holkar, a Maharani of the Maratha Empire.
