wara Swami Temple is a Hindu temple located in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, India. The temple is devoted to Lord Shiva, also known as Vigneswara. The temple is built in the 10thcentury Chola style architecture, and is known for its intricate stone carvings. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The temple complex is built in the style of the Cholas period and it houses some of the most intricate and beautiful stone carvings depicting the ancient arts and architecture of the period. The central attraction of the temple is a huge Lingam of Lord Shiva which is almost 5ft in height and 16ft in circumference and is known to be one of the largest Lingams in all of Tamil Nadu. The temple is said to be one of the few temples which still preserve the Chola style of architecture. It is also said to be the oldest and one of the most important temples for Lord Shiva worship in the region.
