Two Inscribed Rocks, Salvankuppam are two large boulders that stand at the entrance of a picturesque village in India's Tamil Nadu. Located about 7 km from the temple town of Mamallapuram, the village is a rather interesting place to explore. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The two inscribed rocks in this village stand just next to the road and make a unique sight among the village landscape. Both the rocks bear inscriptions, with one containing a well-preserved early Chola inscription, while the other bears Pallava inscriptions. Interesting facts:
The village of Salvankuppam is possibly the oldest village in India that has continuously been inhabited by the same people since its establishment. It is also the birthplace of one of the oldest Tamil poets, Avvaiyar. The two inscribed rocks at Salvankuppam are registered as an archaeological monument of India and are of great historical significance.
