Overview:
f Khwaja Khizer is a 14th-century tomb located in Avadi, a town in the north of Chennai, India. It is believed to be the resting place of a revered Sufi saint, Khwaja Khizer Huddafeer, who is credited with introducing the order of Sufism to the region. The tomb was built during the reign of Sultan Feroz Shah Tughlaq II and is still seen as a sacred pilgrimage site by local Muslims. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The features of this tomb are the mosque, the minaret, a tomb, the qibla and a water tank. The mosque, the tomb and the minaret are decorated with beautiful carvings and inscriptions. The mosque has also some lovely frescoes and paintings, mostly depicting Islamic imams and sages. You must visit one of these historical places in India on your India tour

• Khwaja Khizer Huddafeer was said to be a holy man who performed miracles and many people visit his tomb to seek his blessings. • It is believed that while closing the entrance of the tomb, an old man appeared and said that he was the one who had constructed the tomb and will only grant permission to enter the tomb if prayed to grant it. • The tomb has four minarets of varying heights and a dome shaped building for women to pray. • The tomb is the event site for the annual urs (festival) of Khwaja Khizer.
